I had an email this week from Michael Borgelt, Business Development Manager at Mortgage101.com. Back in 2004, I wrote about how they used online tools and content to generate a network of inbound links in an article entitled ‘The Intuitive Linking Strategy’. At the time they were no.1 in Google for the single search term ‘mortgage’ out of 16 million results. I’ve just updated the article - they’re still first but out of over 100 million search results.
What I love about this linking strategy is that they didn’t set out to build a link network, they just provided tools and content that they felt their target audience would love. The links followed as a result.
