One more company featured in major media because of their capability to buck the trend at present has been Lake Powell Furniture.
Based in Arizona, Kip Bennett took over the small furniture
business only six years ago but decided to expand just as the recession bit.
Unfortunately, the bank with which he had invested $7,000 for a commercial mortgage loan went under, and took with it his cash.
However, upon hearing about Mercantile, Mr Bennett approached Orlando-based lender for a 504 loan, and was successful.
Speaking to CNN Money, Mercantile chief executive Christopher Hum, said: "I believe the total universe of owner-user commercial property deals has shrunk, but because so few lenders are actually lending these days, we're getting a much larger share of the fewer deals that are out there.
"The creditworthiness of our deals is increasing, as only the strongest and healthiest transactions are getting done these days. Deals that would have ordinarily gone to a large regional bank are now coming to us."
Mr Bennett was able to work with Mercantile and in January was lent $500,000 to develop a new store and expand in Arizona.
Such a deal would typically be unremarkable in most economies, but to secure such a large commercial mortgage loan in the depth of the recession is, in fact, extremely remarkable.
Similar such news regarding success in the face of the ongoing recession would no doubt do much to draw media attention throughout the year.
