Smartphones are no longer just for employees in business, they are proving to be popular with the entire nation.

In the next five years, there will be a ten per cent increase in smartphone sales, according to Juniper Research.

By 2013, the firm believes that 23 per cent of all mobile phones sold will be smartphones.

Karl Sharpe, a mobile phone expert for Mobile-phones.co.uk, stated that the mainstream cool of the iPhone has helped boost this market.

"The recent rise in smartphones sales can almost be directly attributed to the iPhone as people now realise there is a lot more that they can do with their phones other than merely calling and texting," he stated.

"What once was seen as the preserve of business users has almost become the norm for high-end devices as people look to do all their communicating from one device."

Western Europe is the leading market for smartphones, Juniper Research indicated.
