Business owners with websites should make sure that they can cope with traffic spikes when more people are visiting.
That is according to Ben Camm-Jones, the news editor of Web-User Magazine, who claims that not too many websites will have consistent traffic levels, and coping with spikes is important.
Mr Camm-Jones added: "If the peaks are very, very high then site performance is likely to suffer unless the site owner has invested in enough server capacity to deal with them.
"The trouble is, as these things don't happen very often, there is little incentive to invest.
"Anyone running a business would be well advised to make sure their site can cope with spikes in traffic, as any potential customers who can't access the site are likely to go elsewhere."
According to the fourth Digital Media Index published by Orange late last year, mobile data usage almost doubled in the last quarter of 2008.
