The European commission has claimed that the internet and social networking are good ways for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enhance their connectivity and drive business.
In a speech in Brussels, information society and media commissioner Viviane Reding stated that there are three key drivers in the future use of the internet: social networking, the 'internet of things' and mobile internet, ZDNet.co.uk reports.
Speaking about social networking particularly, she claimed that increasingly sophisticated and high added-value products and services "will be delivered through opportune collaboration of a multiplicity of business actors".
She also claimed that the solution would enable firms from different business sectors to thrive and better work together.
Meanwhile, the British Computer Society has suggested the next-generation broadband will help many fledgling UK businesses to get off the ground.
