More than 150 million people have now signed up to social networking site Facebook, according to new figures.
Founder Mark Zuckerberg posted a message on the site – which is now bigger than Japan – saying there are now 150 million people using it.
Of those users, nearly 50 per cent log on to their Facebook page at least once a day to check messages on their walls, in their inboxes or to look at friends' photos.
Mr Zuckerberg said: "If Facebook were a country, it would be the eighth most-populated in the world, just ahead of Japan, Russia and Nigeria."
In the early days of the site, it was mainly popular among students, but has widened its popularity in recent years.
Mr Zuckerberg, who launched the site in his dorm at Harvard just five years ago, added: "Today, people of all ages - grandparents, parents and children - use Facebook in more than 35 different languages and in 170 countries and territories."
