Companies could improve their effectiveness by utilising their websites in more efficient fashion, experts have claimed.

Concentration needs to be maintained by firms to ensure they do not make small errors on websites that could undermine their performance, according to Design UK.

By maximising website usability, the digital agency believes that firms can improve their online standing.

Steve Simmonds, business manager at Design UK, said the businesses should get an idea of "what's working and what's not" at the design stage in order to work out how to improve their website.

"Sometimes it can be [something that's been] completely overlooked. It might just be a very minor thing but it's minor things that can [cause problems]," he added.

Mr Simmonds went on to say that there are sometimes surprises for people in business who do not know what to expect once their company begins operating on the internet.

A recent survey from the Direct Marketing Association has suggested that firms are focusing on retaining clients through online activity rather than attracting new ones.
