The money saving qualities of green technology is attracting an increasing number of individuals and organisations.
That is the view of BusinessGreen, which has suggested that energy efficient computer systems are continuing to be implemented on a large scale.
As well as making savings during this difficult financial period, there are also the benefits of helping the environment to be considered.
However, James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen, said that the two go hand in hand.
"The idea of greater controls on energy - more automation to make sure that machines are turned off - is increasingly popular?partly because of the environmental stuff but largely because of the cost savings.
"If you're a big bank with a fleet of tens of thousands of PCs, that becomes millions of pounds worth of energy savings, so those types of controls are becoming very popular."
A Greenpeace survey found that leading consumer electronics products on the market last month contained less PVC plastic and fewer hazardous chemicals than at the same time in 2008.
