Surfing the internet is most popular among the UK's housewives, new research reveals.
A new poll shows that housewives spend nearly half their free time on the web and are the most internet-loving social group in the world.
Figures from TNS show that a survey of more than 27,000 people from over 16 countries showed housewives from the UK came out on top.
They spent around 47 per cent of their time on the net, compared to students who came next in line, spending 39 per cent of their time on the Net.
The unemployed spend around 32 per cent of their free time on the internet, according to the figures.
According to the results, English people are the most trusting of online news sites.
The survey found they come second only to friends as the most trusted source of information.
Friendships are increasingly being forged or maintained online, with the survey showing that the average Briton has 17 online friends.
