Not enough is being done by the IT industry to combat growing carbon footprints, a survey has found.
According to a BPM Forum and Rackable Systems survey, 82 per cent of IT professionals believe that their companies are not embracing green practices.
This is despite 97 per cent of respondents agreeing that it is vital the IT industry takes more responsibility for the environment.
Donovan Neale-May, executive director of the BPM Forum, said that these good intentions need to be turned into policies.
"Faced with a myriad of forces and factors, including a severely challenged economy and peer pressure to become more sustainable, IT executives must drive ecological action, not just rhetoric," he stated.
He added that "positive change in the short-term" should be one of the main goals of IT firms.
A new "thought leadership initiative" called Think Eco-Logical has been launched by Rackable Systems and the BPM Forum.
