Blogs and websites to do with getting fit will do well in the coming weeks, as new research shows internet users are flocking to them.
Gym and health club websites saw a 14 per cent increase in traffic in the week to January 3rd this year compared to last year's figures.
But paradoxically, analysis of search engine terms reveals the number of queries for 'diets' saw a 20 per cent fall.
Meanwhile, searches for the term detox decreased by 12.5 per cent and those for all searches including the word diet fell by 8.5 per cent, the figures from Hitwise reveal.
Robin Goad, research director at Hitwise, said: "Of course, although diet searches may be down year-on-year, there has still been a noticeable post-Christmas spike."
The study revealed the most popular diets searched for were the Atkins Diet, the Cambridge Diet and the Special K Diet.
Analysis also shows popular searches included those for diet pills and free diet plans.
