The virtual world is being utilised by businesses in the "real world" more than ever before, it has been observed.
The Forum of Private Business (FPB) has noted that the opportunities being provided by the internet are now being taken advantage of by firms to a greater extent.
One way that this is happening is the advent of online discount vouchers, which are growing in popularity.
Phil McCabe, spokesperson for the FPB, agreed that this trend illustrates a willingness to embrace new technology as well as traditional methods.
"It's more businesses in the real world using the virtual world, or seeing the opportunities provided by the virtual world in terms of marketing, specifically cost-effective marketing, in the midst of the downturn and the recession," he said.
New Hitwise UK statistics have revealed a 143 per cent rise in searches for retail discount vouchers over the festive season, with Money Saving Expert creator Martin Lewis being searched for more than President Obama.
