The increasing popularity of netbooks is eating into the market share of traditional laptops, according to experts.
Techworld has suggested that the new generation of laptops is appealing to consumers more due to their ability to meet demands.
John Dunn, editor at the website, observed that mainstream laptops often have too many features that are not useful.
"What is really going [on] is more or less a reinvention of the laptop concept in a slightly new guise that features much better battery life, lower weight, and just enough performance and features to meet the demands people place on them," he said.
"Traditionally, laptops have tended to be larger heavier and come with technology many people don't really use."
Recent research from Displaybank predicted that netbooks will take up 17.2 per cent of the total notebook PC market this year.
It added that 140 per cent average annual growth can be expected until 2012.
