Vodafone has gone into partnership with Microsoft as part of a new development aimed at helping small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Microsoft's Business Productivity Online Suite is being incorporated into Vodafone's offer for small business customers which Ovum claims is a "statement of intent" from Vodafone.

The website suggests that the telecoms company is aspiring to bring converged communications services closer to being a reality for its SME customers.

Enterprises in Spain and Germany will be the first to receive the offer, although further rollout is expected across all markets.

Vodafone believes that the simple and flexible per-user pricing will make the offer attractive to SMEs.

Discussing whether or not the new solution could generate business for Vodafone, Ovum stated that research "shows high levels of interest in unified communications capability".
