The team of US president Barack Obama has pledged to transform the official White House website into a "window for all Americans into the business of the government".
Just minutes after the website of George W Bush went offline, to be replaced by that of his successor, the director of new media at the White House, Macon Phillips, posted a blog laying out the new administrations plans to revamp the online portal.
According to the blog, the government will work to improve levels of "communication", "transparency" and "participation".
In addition to the all of the executive orders and proclamations issued by President Obama, the site will contain a number of new features, such as links to email addresses to which US citizens can post comments or thoughts.
"President Obama has committed to making his administration the most open and transparent in history, and WhiteHouse.gov will play a major role in delivering on that promise," Mr Phillips concluded.
However, according to the Associated Press, the website was experiencing a few teething problems in its first few hours.
