Almost half of ecommerce customers plan to buy more presents online this Christmas than last, a new survey suggests.
Forty-four per cent of online shoppers surveyed by the email services provider MyBuys said they expected to make more purchases over the internet this festive season, but 53 per cent would only use retailers that made an effort to personalize the shopping experience.
The MyBuys Holiday Harris Poll shows that product recommendations are getting through to most customers. Eighty per cent of the respondents had purchased at least one product after a recommendation from an ecommerce vendor.
Yet almost two-thirds of the online shoppers polled said that recommended goods were rarely to their taste.
"The survey highlights how important it is to create a personalized experience for consumers," commented Paul Rosenblum, vice president of marketing at MyBuys.
"These results are not in conjunction with what people are doing in online retail," he added.
Emailing is a particular aspect of customer relations that consumers want personalizing and where internet retailers can capitalize. Customers appreciate emails highlighting relevant new products, deals or recommendations, DMNews reports, which can in turn foster trust and encourage sales.
