Online fashion retailers are reporting a massive surge in sales as consumers turn to the internet for their designer fixes.
With women across the globe refusing to let the global economic turndown get in the way of their fashion fixes, French online business Vente-privee has reported a 46 per cent rise in sales over the past year.
This boom, which has pushed annual sales up to £545 million, has been attributed to the firm's innovative use of the internet, with customers invited to join by other members and leading brands and designers using the site to clear excess stock, thereby giving consumers the chance to land a bargain.
At the same time, the Guardian has reported that other online fashion retailers such as Koodos and Brand Kelly are also experiencing a massive rise in consumer interest, with the internet benefitting from the economic situation.
"Consumers are turning to the internet as the most efficient way to save money and it is also clear that retailers are seizing the potential of the internet to reach shoppers with targeted discounts and promotions," Mike Petevinos of consultancy Capgemini told the paper.
This comes soon after website MyVoucherCodes.co.uk reported that the online retail sector tends to benefit from bad weather as consumers stay in and log on.
