Online media benefitting both businesses and jobseekers

Growing numbers of businesses are turning to online social media in order to find the best web-savvy talent, it has been reported.

Alongside the rise in number of business leaders making use of blogs and social networking sites to promote their own products or services, many jobseekers are now adopting similar tactics in a bid to stand out from the crowd, often with excellent results, the Sydney Morning Herald has revealed.

According to experts cited by the paper, the old saying 'it's not what you know, it's who you know', is more relevant than ever, with both business leaders and job-hunters able to make valuable contacts through online technology.

Describing the success of an online initiative, one Sydney-based business owner, explained: "In the first 24 hours - and this is a testament to the viral nature of Twitter - we had traffic levels that were on par with a top ten US job site."

Earlier this month, Brando Social advised businesses to make use of social networking sites in order to get a head-start on competitors.
