In a bid to ready its customers for the onslaught of web video, IBM has developed a new online tool to help the blind operate multimedia players.
The new multimedia browsing tool allows the visually impaired the same multimedia control feature as sighted people.
Using a predefined shortcut key, those with sight difficulties can control the video player without having to rove around the screen with their mouse.
The tool also allows users to control the video's replay speed and sound quality.
Frances West, director of IBM's human ability and accessibility center, said: "The new multimedia browsing accessibility tool will enable persons with visual impairments the opportunity to access dynamic multimedia web content, quickly and easily."
"IBM has a long history of developing innovative solutions for persons with disabilities, and this tool is another example of IBM innovation that will enhance the web experience for persons with visual impairments."
