An innovative search facility has been launched in the UK that amalgamates results from all the major search engines on the web.
WebFetch.co.uk aggregates results from Google, Yahoo, MSN Live Search and Ask.com on in addition to specialist sites such as Blink.tv and Kelkoo.
If the site gains in popularity, smaller and industry specific search engines may be able to break Google's stranglehold on the market.
This means that businesses would have to harness their search engine optimisation (SEO) methods to please other engines that prioritise sites for different reasons.
"If you really needed to find something or somebody you would send out a search party, not just go it alone," said Dominic Trigg of InfoSpace, WebFetch's parent company.
"We ask people, why use just one search engine, when you can use an all-star team of search engines to give you the results you're after?"
Along with a standard web search, WebFetch allows users to search images, audio and video content and news.
But two features that differentiate it from other search sites are its business and people finder functions, which are specifically designed to aid ecommerce.
