Internet TV set to boom in UK

Internet television is set to take off in the UK as a new report suggests that 1.5 million will be watching TV through the web in just four years time.

Video streaming websites such as Veoh and Joost look likely to grow substantially this year and many other sites, such as the Financial Times and the BBC are investing heavily in video content but Telecom operators such as BT Vision are already promoting hybrid digital terrestrial TV and internet protocol TV (DTT/IPTV).

"IPTV is set to become a mass market proposition over the next five years," said Raj Modi, research director at Centre for Telecoms Research.

"The recent launches of IPTV products by BT and Tiscali are testament to the fact that internet service providers will now put their full force behind IPTV."

Experts are beginning to consider the growth of tele-visual content on the web as the third wave of internet communications and businesses who are at the cutting edge of ecommerce are urged to consider adding video content to their website in order to increase traffic.
