Attracting traffic through articles

Jon Rognerud gave Entrepreneur.com some advice to enable businesses to maximize traffic through the position of industry-related articles posted on their website.

He points to Google as the key focus of planning a search engine optimization (SEO) strategy since this is where 47.5 per cent of the US search market is generated.

He explains the concept of latent semantic indexing (LSI) tactics to boost search rankings.

Through LSI, the engine searches a document for a selection of words and then examines which other documents contain the same words to look for themes.

Thus, as a website links to other sites, the search engine will try to determine what it is the article is about through common words.

Mr Rognerud recommends using supportive and anchor text or links to maximize this approach.

Using the Google AdWords Keyword Tool can also guide writers in the use of keywords. This system allows businesses to compare sites which share their keywords but rank at the top of a Google search.

Positioning of articles, for example, the location of press releases, is also an important method of traffic generation that many businesses fail to utilise sufficiently, but which can unearth a new set of potential customers.
