Google is to build on its trend-spotting services with the introduction of Google Hot Trends, which can aid businesses in determining which searches are hot and which are not.
The service will be a combination of Google Trends and Zeitgeist, which monitor the most commonly used search terms.
Google Hot Trends will list the top-100 fastest growing search terms and will be updated several times every day.
They will be ranked according to 'hotness', relating to how rapidly their search popularity increases.
The service gives users links to related sites, news stories and blogs to create a rounded assessment of what is of interest to web searchers.
Amit Patel, a Hot Trends software engineer, told Reuters: "After we find what trends are interesting, users want to know why are they important? We are helping you find an explanation. There is some investigation that has to be done by the user."
The service can be used in relation to business, politics or general topics of interest. Users can also locate which cities the searches are coming from.
Businesses can use Hot Trends to determine what internet users want and how they are searching for it, enabling them to improve their search rankings.
