A leading expert on search engine optimization (SEO) has aired her views on the possibilities for the marketing tool in Web 2.0 communities.
The Web 2.0 appellation is commonly used to refer to those sites that offer interactive communities or hosted pages where dialogue and sharing between members takes place.
PJ Fusco, writing on ClickZ, explains that offering some Web 2.0 applications on your website could really boost its popularity and visibility on search engines.
"Some Web 2.0 content management systems, such as blogs and wikis, are primed and relatively optimal for search engine visibility straight out of the box," she argues, with Google seemingly particularly keen on blogs.
She added that the "textually rich, extensively interlinked [and] frequently updated", elements that are inherent to wikis and blogs make them naturally search engine optimized.
Ms Fusco also confirmed that SEO functions are growing increasingly sophisticated, allowing them to find text that is embedded in a range of forms, such as AJAX, Flash and in audio and video transcripts, that was previously inaccessible.
