Just 40 per cent of small businesses are aware of Web 2.0, a survey by
Mediasurface, a content management company, has revealed.
The findings are of particular surprise since 90 per cent of small businesses have an online presence.
Such companies are said to be at risk of being overlooked, as they fail to employ the web sufficiently in terms of marketing.
Andy Pert, chief marketing officer at Mediasurface, said; "With Web 2.0 increasingly being covered in the media, it was interesting to see that 41 per cent of SMEs surveyed had not heard of it, implying that the message may be getting through to larger businesses but not as efficiently to the smaller business community."
He went on to say that there is still a great opportunity to show small businesses the value of Web 2.0 and effective management of web content.
Other results from the survey revealed that just 37 per cent of small businesses believed Web 2.0 could impact their business and 52 per cent were unaware how often their websites were updated.
