A new internet tool is to give Google Earth sound effects.
It is the creation of Bernie Krause who has spent 40 years collecting recordings from around the world, which are said to exceed 3,500 hours, according to the Metro.
Since the sounds span some decades, it is possible for users to compare how areas have changed by listening to the recordings.
The sounds include bird song, whale songs, traditional music and much more.
Mr Krause, founder of Wild Sanctuary, said: "Our objective is to bring the world alive. We have all the continents of the world, high mountains, low deserts."
The software is available to download from Wild Sanctuary.
Google Earth is increasingly being employed by internet businesses, particularly those in the tourism sector, to mark their location and the location of points of interest.
New Scientist has reported a new project, Freesound, which allows contributors to add their own sounds to Google Earth
