Chairman and chief executive of Publicis Groupe, Maurice Levy, is to deliver a sombre warning to the Fipp World Magazine Congress next month, a Brand Republic report has claimed.

The congress is to be hosted by the UK Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) and takes place across May 5th and 6th.

Mr Levy is to be interviewed live in front of the audience in order to discuss the issues facing the magazine industry.

The Brand Republic report suggested that Mr Levy would deliver a message depicting changes to marketing revenue which will last long after the marketing sector itself returns to good health.

Jonathan Shephard, chief executive of the PPA, said: "In a time of rapid change, all publishers are reassessing their markets and their strategy.

"The congress is the ideal place to be informed, be entertained, to network and to appreciate and learn from real-life examples of success."

Although research from the Nielsen Group shows that magazines and newspapers were those industries worst hit by the downturn in advertising expenditure, many others will be suffering in the recession.

Moving a business online could help reduce overheads and attract a wider range of customers, providing a means of fighting the recession.
