Technology age gap 'to increase'

It is expected that the age gap for the use and understanding of new technology is continuing to grow as the difficulty in picking up new skills increases.

ABI Research has suggested that younger generations are catching on to technology much quicker than older people and this shift is not likely to change as it takes more time for older men and women to adapt.

Dominique Bonte, research director for telematics and navigation at ABI Research, commented that more time is needed with age to get to grips with new technology.

"On one hand it is widening because there are ever more features, functions, capabilities, configurations and settings you can use to personalise the systems," he said.

"The adoption of technology always happens first with the younger groups and then spreads to all the groups."

Web User has claimed that more training is needed in the workplace to get people up to scratch with technology such as email.
