The technology industry will weather the financial storm because the sector has continued to grow.

That is the opinion of Intellect, which has asserted that the industry should not completely despair over the recession because it "doesn't stand still".

Chief operating officer Charles Ward said that as such what occurs in the "wider customer base" should be the more important issue.

He also pointed out that, positively, a reliance on date storage has continued to grow, as has the number of people using the internet and mobile phones.

"You've still got growing numbers of people using the internet, growing use of connected devices, growing number of mobile users, continuing, exponential growth in the volume of information," Mr Ward said.

His comments come after the publication of the latest biannual Tech Sector Barometer on March 27th, 2009.

Produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the research revealed that one fifth of technology companies think that demand will increase over the next six months.
