Businesses in the UK have a competitive technology platform from which to produce new, innovative uses of the internet, a new study has found.
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has placed Britain as tenth in the world for information communication technology.
However, it is not close to catching the leading countries, with Sweden topping the rankings.
Other European countries dominate, with Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Iceland all well placed, along with the Republic of Korea, which grabbed second place.
Another feature of the study that will interest businesses is its ICT Price Basket tool, which measures how much consumers have to pay for utilities such as broadband and mobile telephony.
In this list, the UK was in 14th place, which places it ahead of Japan, France and Germany.
Meanwhile, new speed tables from broadband.co.uk have found that Virgin Media is leading the way with the top upload speed of all broadband providers.
